President & C.E.O. of Memo's CO., LTD. Dr. DOMENICO CANTATORE Italian citizen. Born in Bari, capital city of Apulia region, in Southern Italy. Born in a family of lawyers, for generations Cantatore family upheld the custom: "The first son wiil be a lawyer, the second son will go to the Army" and thus he studied law to become a lawyer. During his university years at Bari's University, he was selected by the Rotary foundation to spend a year as an exchange student at Kyoto University. After graduating from Bari university, he attained the licence as a lawyer and, instead of specializing in criminal law or in civil law and against the will of his relatives, went to Japan. In Japan high quality imported goods had still a strong image, Dr. Cantatore started dealing with Italian made jewellery, brought samples to boutiques, business went very well and thus Memo's CO., LTD. was born. After starting with jewellery, he aimed at clothing for working ladies in their 30's and began dealing in womens'clothing. When abroad, Italians are very much troubled by food, being in this far eastern country, this problem hung heavily upon Dr. Cantatore. At that time olive oil was sold as a medicine in pharmacies at a very high price, the Italian boom was still 10 years away and, if anyone wanted to eat tasty Italian food, had to look for the few restaurants specialized in Italian food and had to go to Kobe or Tokyo by car. That wasn't such a big trouble but he asked himself why such tasty food could be eaten only in such a few restaurants... Thus he decided to start importing Italian food and wines and, at the same time, to open a restaurant. Looking back at those times Dr. Cantatore says: "Italian food is very much alike Japanese food. Taking in great account the taste of ingredients and adding just a little bit of seasoning are the tecniques that fascinate people. Japanese people take account of seasons when prepare food and in this are very similar to Italians, so I couldn't think of a reason why Japanese people would not accept Italian food. Born on 6 September 1942. Virgo, blood type B.
